Founded in 2000, by Dr Mark Fretwell, IT2 was originally an ASP (Application Service Provider). Back then, before the ‘Cloud’, or ‘SaaS’ (Software as a Service) became the preferred nomenclature, IT2 was hosting applications on the Internet.
Unfortunately, we were ahead of our time. Broadband was starting to become available, but still had only 512 kbps download and 64 kbps upload speeds, limiting performance of remote access. Hardware and Datacentre costs were also expensive, and subscription licensing was a new concept.
These combined challenges proved to be too difficult to overcome, so IT2 transitioned into an IT Service Provider, of more traditional services.
Indeed, it took another 10-years before Microsoft launched their Cloud Service – Office 365.
We never completely rejected our original mission, to develop cloud services, and a founding member- Richard Fogg – Head of Digital transformation, has remained in the Business, focused on creating bespoke web applications, API integrations, and more recently workflow automation and Al.
